Hazel Skelton

Hazel Skelton trained as a family mediator in 2000 and qualified as Practice Consultant and Supervisor in 2004. She has also qualified as a Special Education Needs (SEN) mediator. Hazel has been with Essex Mediation since their inception in 2001. Previously she worked in Family Law for some twelve years and is experienced in Child and Family Law. Hazel also works in a voluntary capacity as a CAP Money Coach. Hazel is married with two teenage children.

Christine completed her professional training with Essex Mediation and qualified as an accredited family mediator in 2005. Christine's previous business background is in the financial services industry, HR and employee relations. In 2009, Christine qualified as a Professional Practice Consultant and served for three years on the Board of the Family Mediators Association. Christine is qualified to conduct Direct Consultation with children mediation and in addition to her mediation work, she is a volunteer debt advisor. She is a member of Family Mediators Association and National Family Mediation.

Elaine qualified as an All Issues family mediator in 2002 and has worked for Essex Mediation since that time. She is a member of the Family Mediators Association and National Family Mediation. Elaine has much experience in "In court" mediation and was very successful in helping many parents make their own arrangements regarding their children in this challenging environment. In addition to her mediation work, Elaine worked for many years as a Debt Specialist for the Citizens Advice Bureau, this required negotiation skills and the ability to be understanding but pragmatic when working with people in difficult situations. Prior to this Elaine worked as a negotiator/buyer for Greek ship owners in London for 15 years, she is familiar with the intricacies of working in a commercial environment.

Jill qualified as a family mediator in 2003. She is Family Mediation Council accredited and recognised by the Legal Aid Agency. Since 2012, Jill has also been the Professional Practice Consultant for a mediation service in London. Jill is trained in and carries out Direct Consultation with children in mediation. She is also a trainer on the Separated Parents’ Information Programme and has done in-court mediation.

Macarena is a mediator, trainer and researcher with a diverse range of experience in conflict transformation and resolution and personal growth. She is an accredited family, community, workplace and special education needs (SEN) mediator. She is also a trainer in conflict resolution, mediation and self-awareness to executives, academics and community groups, and trainer in peer mediation to young people in schools. She lectures on conflict theory and self-awareness and reflective practice for conflict practitioners at the PgCert and MSc courses at Birkbeck College, University of London. Her academic qualifications include an MSc in Conflict resolution and Mediation Studies from University of London and a Ph.D. from Cranfield University. Macarena was born in Málaga, Spain, and now lives near London with her husband.

Our senior Civil and Commercial Mediator is Jon Mallender who is an ADR Group Accredited Mediator and member of the Civil Mediation Council. His career background includes senior Director level appointments in both the UKand overseas with a large multinational Company. He spent 5 years working as Personnel Manager of the Ford Motor Company complex at Dagenham. He has since been Vice Chair of a Social Housing Group in East London. He is a Fellow of the CIPD and a member of the Employment Appeal Tribunal.

Deborah Butterworth has had 18 years' experience resolving disputes and has been a mediator since 2012. She was Called to the Bar in 2013 having passed the Bar Professional Training Course. Michael was accredited as a mediator in 2004 and has wide experience of both civil, commercial and community mediation. He has been a member of the Civil Mediation Council (CMC) since 2005 and is registered by the CMC as a civil and commercial mediator. Michael has had experience in working in Europe, Africa, South East Asia, Australasia, America and Canada for over 30 years in various aspects of ADR. In mediation, Michael develops a dialogue between parties that allows them to resolve their disagreements and work together on the solution. He acts as a go between, encouraging and developing ways of moving forward to a resolution which suits all involved. Michael is tenacious in not allowing parties to give up when the going gets tough. He has had great success in getting to the nub of the issue and finding a way to closure.
